Know The Name; Know The Person

Singer Taylor Swift and football player Tim Tebow’s names are in the news as potentially dating. Would they make a good couple together? What do their names say?

Both take what they love to the extreme. Both like to be at the top of their game, and if they can’t be at the top, then why even bother? Tim is focused on family and relationships while Taylor is focused on work. She’d want to keep working and not be controlled in any way. Tim can be supportive of his significant other, while Taylor will work hard behind the scenes to show her love through action, not mush. They don’t have any conflicting letters per say that would cause major problems in the relationship. However, both would need to leave their competitive spirits outside of the relationship, which both are capable of doing. Taylor likes to have things her own way once she’s figured out the most practical way to do something. Other than that, she doesn’t need to be the one in control as long as the other person is competent. Tim can handle anything. He enjoys being included and is a natural leader. So in leadership requirements they are compatible. Taylor is more artistic or creative and wants the world to be fair. She will stand up for others and herself. Tim is more easy-going and is more selective of where his time is spent. There is a lot of commonalities in their names where they would have a strong friendship.

Whitney Houston’s name is fairly unique as Whitney is not a common name. We will use her name to help understand her behavior choices. The first I in her name indicates that family is the most important thing in Whitney’s life. That is one of the many characteristics indicated by the first vowel of I. The ‘T’ next to the ‘I’ takes the importance of family to the extreme. Family becomes the most important thing in Whitney’s life. Then the ‘H’ leading into the ‘IT’ says that she will go with the flow within the family. Said another way, whatever her spouse wants, if she can deliver it, she will. Thus, with a positive influence she is positive, but with a negative or toxic influence, she becomes negative. Marrying Bobby Brown made him the most influential person in her life and she imitated him to please him. Thus, her name indicates why she made the choices that she did.
Why do we love her so much and why hasn’t her popularity lessened with her addictive actions? That is because her name ends in ‘EY’ which indicates that she loves to rescue others. In return, we wish we could rescue her.

Do names really matter? You bet they do, especially when the name of the product is great in one language but the same word offensive in another language. Take for example the name of the soft drink Fresca which had problems when it was sold in Mexico. Why? In Mexico, the word Fresca is slang for lesbian. Any time a product is being named, alternative languages must be considered as to not inadvertently offend another culture, especially if you plan on marketing to that culture. Queen Latifah, whose real name is Dana Owens, has a new movie out called “Joyful Noise” where she plays a conflicting role challenging Dolly Parton to save a church choir. So, how did Dana Owens change when she decided to be called Queen Latifah?

Queen Latifah added more emotion to her personality, more ability to feel the different characters that she might be portraying. She also gave herself permission to put herself first instead of continually self-sacrificing for the good of others. Her boundaries also got firmer and were better enforced. One of the qualities that were added, to her advantage, was her ability to imagine and be even more creative. On the personal side, Queen Latifah also declared, with this new name, that she would become a blessing for others.

The name Barbara holds many challenges as there are many ‘A’s so that spirituality, not religion, is important. Barbara’s are highly competitive and there are high expectations for success both self imposed and from others. Barbara’s have fairness issues and want the world to be fair for everyone according for their own definition of fairness. Barbara’s may have a hard time speaking up for themselves, and yet they don’t have any problem speaking up for another’s rights. They don’t want another person to get the raw end of a deal. Barbara’s feel its important to be likable while simultaneously unwilling to change who they are to get liked as they know that can be fleeting. When Streisand deleted the second ‘A’ in the spelling of her name, it diminished her need for absolute justice even though it is still important.

The name John is similar to the character Jekyll and Hyde in so far as when they are good they are very, very good, however, when they are… well you know the rest of that story. John’s like to be the CEO of the people around him. The great news is that they have fabulous memories. We do not want a John upset with us as they can be angels walking the earth when our friends, and torrent when upset. Jack’s are more mild tempered, quick on their feet and just as bright as Johns. Jack’s though don’t need to be the one in charge, nor do they have a Jekyll and Hyde capability.

The name Yvonne has all of the desires and abilities to be a great boss. There are challenges in this name as there are in all names and one of the challenges in this name is not to create fear in others while in the leadership position. In other words, Yvonnes must be careful not to rule through fear and threats or want to get revenge when things don’t go their way. Other than that, Yvonne is one of the best names for a female leader. They are dynamic, gracious hosts and can handle multiple responsibilities and tasks simultaneously. Yvonne can make everyone feel welcome around her, and tactfully influence others to carry out their will. Yvonne is a dynamic individual, not influenced by others, and yet able to influence others who wishes to make a difference in the world.
